Montura 2018 fashion show

So, a few days ago I participated in a fashion show with my school! I'm so happy they called me. :D
Montura is the best known fashion manifestation in Split, Dalmacija and it was fun to be there!
I chose to show a mini collection of three outfits. There will be more when I grow up and start my own label! Yes, soon!

The sketches..
I was inspired by the 30s fashion, slim silhouettes and beach pajamas. For a contemporary touch I added some fabric manipulation. :)

The fabrics..
I ended up using only the glazed jersey and the stripey polyester. The jersey was lovely to sew until I had to do the hemming. At that point there was no way to get a proper seam. The needle would stick to the glaze and totally made me crazy. The muslin/satin was so nice to see and feel, but awful to sew from the second minute. I'm getting frustrated only thinking of it. Pure plastic. I ripped the side seams of the long dress three times before getting a presentable shape. Sigh.

The outfits..
In the end everything looked quite nice, fortunately. :)

Wide legged trousers with a small top that mimicked a scarf knotted on the back. I also made the sun hat!

Midi dress and matching clutch. My favorite. I wish I could wear this one..

It was quite a nice afternoon spent in the beautiful garden of the Ivan Meštrović Gallery in Split. :)

Preparations

I wanted to show you the sketches that preceded the runway outfits. Of course, I did it all myself, from sketch to pattern making to sewing.

Yay!

Woohooo!

Yesterday I got my "modellista di alta moda" diploma! That would translate as high fashion pattern maker. :-)

The show went very well and I am satisfied that after several days of a zipper curse nothing broke on the runway! Yay!

Today we spent the day doing nothing much after yesterday's excitement.

I hope to get professional photos of the whole thing soon. Until then here is a sneak peek of us having a welcome drink with the girl in the turquoise dress .

Sketches

These are the sketches of the dresses I've chosen to make for the show:

 Sorry, bad scans, but I hope you get the idea. :-)

I've put together a  pile of yellow and violet colored fabrics and there are enough pieces to make all three dresses. This is really a nice stash busting project, don't you think? :-)

One more upside to my closet fabric hunt is that I've folded and put away my fabric stash. Suddenly there was more room in the closet! Don't worry, the gaps have already been filled with more pieces from my many scrap boxes. When I see them there is more probability of making something out of them than when they are hidden away in some bag or box.

Getting ready...

For a fashion show!

Every year the Callegary school organizes a diploma ceremony followed by a fashion show to display the work of their pupils. I had the chance to participate last year and now, as a recent graduate, I'm in again! The theme of the year is - evening dresses.  Quite a broad topic, isn't it?

This is what I made last year - three day dresses inspired by flapper style.

You certainly won't be surprised to learn that all the dress were made with fabrics, remnants and clothes from my closet collection, hehe. :-)
Of course, they are not coordinated as a mini collection, but I think I managed to catch the spirit of the era.

Let's see what we can do this year with the stuff from the closet! :-)
